No need to succeed - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog My main tool in coping with all the stuff going on in the Happy at Work Project right now has been to remind myself, that I dont need to suceed. Every time I start to stress a little I think This does not need to work out. It does not need to be a success. It is OK if it fails. I tried it at a workshop with a customer the other day. I had about 30 people there, and it felt like I wasnt really reaching them. They werent complaining or anything, I just felt like there was a huge distance between me and them and that I wasnt communicating as clearly as I wanted. So I did two things: 1: As above, I reminded myself, that I dont have to suceed. What a relief :o) 2: I consciusly focused my attention on what was going on. All our workshops have lots of sessions where the participants work in small groups, and I spent some time not thinking or planning ahead. I simply tried to notice what was happening tight now in as much detail as possible. From that came a sense of calm and a feeling of reconnecting with what was going on in the room at the time. The workshop was a great success. I even stuck in an exercise Id never tried before, one thats really designed to be used on one person I just modified it on the fly to work on 30 people :o) The question in my mind is whether Im honest with myself. Im telling myself that I dont need to suceed to enhance my chances of suceeding. That seems like cheating, somehow. But it works! Thanks for visiting my blog. Here are some tips: Opening Paragraph A good way to help the reader understand the difference between responsibilities and achievements is to separate the information into a bullet point and paragraph style. The paragraph part should come directly under the titles of your positions. The paragraph should consist of 5-6 lines of information that provide a brief understanding of what you do; and for smaller companies, I recommend adding something about the business so the reader gains information about the nature of the company and industry. Widows And Orphans If you have one word on a line by itself rewrite it so that it is on one line only or add additional words so that it extends onto the second line. It looks strange to have only one word on a line. I Repeat Myself Under Stress; I Repeat Myself Under Stress Repetitive word use in your resume is BORING. Get a thesaurus or go online and choose different words that mean the same thing. Select verbs that are exciting and allow your audience to learn how interesting and compelling you are as a candidate. Speilling (Sp) Errors Nothing screams careless like spelling errors. Spell check is not enough. Check your work and double check it. Read it backwards to catch those spelling errors that are trying to slip past you!! Get another set of eyes. Get it right. We market our opportunities through the lens of what women are looking for.5.Facilitate open dialogue and making sure women are present in the recruiting process.Accenture recognizes that oftentimes women want to have a lot of conversations with different people -- so they enable and embrace openness. In addition to making sure theres a least one female interviewer for every candidate, the company facilitates casual coffee chats to help develop relationships with people who are not even necessarily candidates. Thats often wher e we see relationships start to develop, Kim explains.6.Schedule programs and events for women.Kim says one tangible thing recruiters can do is create and develop events or programs designed to engage women. She spoke specifically about Accentures Womens Career Consortium, which the company hosts in an effort to engage women who are just coming out of college. The first day of the program has nothing to do with Accenture, but is just to show the power of learning and networking, Kim explains. I could exceed every recruiting target out there, but if were losing women or were not promoting them, were not going to change what the employee base looks like, Kim says.10.Embrace Transparency.Commitment to visibility is key. Accenture was the first large professional services company to publish its diversity statistics. Kim says that pushing this information externally helps keep them driven and on track. Unless were going to be transparent about it, we really cant improve it. Were reporting out on it so we need to be accountable, she says.Its really all about personal interactions, she adds.
